A Family Affair
Soaps in Depth - January 8, 2002

Soaps In Depth, 1/8/02When you're far from home, it's great having a surrogate family around.  That's how Thorsten Kaye (Ian) thinks of  late actor Lloyd Bridges' clan.

"I'd been friends with his daughter, Lucinda, and we started to do a play together that Lloyd was directing - this was about 10 years ago," Kaye recalls of the way he met the man for whom he gained such affection.  "When you were in a room with him, he made you feel like you were the only one there.  Not a lot of people have that anymore."

Kaye would later write a book of poetry with Bridges' widow, Dorothy, and went on to become chummy with their sons, actors Beau and Jeff - even joining them for dinner to celebrate what would have been the couples' 60th wedding anniversary.

"It's great to see how close their family is.  It starts with Dorothy, whom they call 'The General,'" Kaye chuckles.  What a great couple.  They complemented each other really well."

THAT'S A FACT
Kaye, who has his master's degree in theater, led an actor's workshop titled "Back To Basics."
