Rainbow Foundation

The Rainbow Foundation is is an organization dedicated to brain tumor research.

Thorsten and many One Life To Live stars participated in a softball game against The Great Pretenders (the team from WCZX-FM) and the Rainbow Foundation All-Stars (the team from the Rainbow Foundation for Brain Tumor Research). The game was held at the Curtis A. Remfrey Little League Complex, in Cornwall-On-Hudson, New York, on July 20, 1996.

Thorsten volunteered to participate in this fund-raising event after hearing the personal story of a fan he met at Starfest. You can read more about this event in the following accounts.

I'd like to apologize for not writing sooner about the tour that I had won at the Starfest fundraiser. What will follow will explain why I haven't had the opportunity, besides the fact that I had a major backache which incapacitated me for quite awhile and also a terrible toothache which turned into a tooth extraction and a dry socket to follow. It was quite an ordeal as I needed to see the dentist everyday for 2 weeks for placement of medication in my mouth.

Anyway, on to the good stuff! My tour was on April 30th, just a few days following all the other lucky Loopers who were fortunate to have had tours also. I arrived only 5 minutes late, considering the horrendous fog I encountered on the Palisades Parkway. When I arrived the guard paged TK and it seemed he was nowhere to be found. He asked me several times if I had the right date and I started to worry. After what seemed like an eternity the guard sent me onto the set until they could locate TK. I have to admit I felt a little intimidated - the actors, the crew, the lights, etc. I tried to find myself a little corner to be out of the way. Hard, when everyone seemed so friendly, especially the stage manager Alan. He came over right away and introduced himself. It turns out we are fellow Bronxites and both now live in Orange County, N.Y. He was an absolute doll and made me feel totally at ease. Shortly after TK walked on the set. It turned out he was in the shower and did not hear his page. Amazing how he remembered me! He came right over and gave me a big hug and kiss hello. We got to talk for awhile and then I was able to watch him rehearse some scenes. I was told the director that day was not in a terrific mood and all visitors were asked to leave the set for one of the scenes they needed to rehearse. In the meantime Alan had come out and told me it probably was not the best day to be on the set and invited me to come back another day. He told me to make sure I saw him before I left. After he returned to the set TK came out and was ready to give me the rest of my tour. He showed me the wardrobe and makeup rooms, a few other places downstairs and then invited me to his dressing room. For those of you who did not read the LOOP bios I lost my oldest son Jeremy to a brain tumor and I am now serving on the Board of Directors for the Rainbow Foundation for Brain Tumor Research, Inc. Some months ago I had written Thorsten a letter asking him if he would consider doing a benefit of some sort for my organization. When I met him at Starfest and won the tour he promised that we would sit down and discuss that possibility. We sat for quite awhile discussing my son and the Rainbow Foundation. Thorsten was extremely sensitive and very compassionate. Although he would love to help us out he could not make a commitment at that time. After about 45 minutes with him, Susan walked by and said they needed to rehearse before taping. He walked me back upstairs and said he wished I had come on his day off, that way we could have gone to lunch. (Funny, how I wished that too!) It was a wonderful day, almost everything I had hoped for.

Before I left TK tried to help me locate Alan. Alan had left for lunch and was not due back for another hour or so. Since I did not want to make a nuisance of myself I decided to leave. Thorsten said he would give him my number, but I decided to write to him. In my letter I mentioned what I had spoken to TK about because my organization is located in Alan's hometown. Alan called me a couple of days later to thank me for my letter and also, now here comes the BIG NEWS to tell me he wanted to do a fundraiser for my organization!!! He offered to do a celebrity softball game for the Rainbow Foundation on Saturday, July 20th! I couldn't believe it! I was so excited and could not thank him enough. I told him how much I would appreciate it if he could convince Thorsten to attend. Somehow, he didn't seem too optimistic, but PS he DID get TK, Christopher, Kamar, Yorlin, etc.,etc.,etc.......

The planning started immediately. I never dreamed how difficult it would be to get a baseball field. With short notice and at this time of the year pretty much all the fields were booked. However, I did manage to arrange for a great field in Cornwall, N.Y., a very quaint, picturesque town in Orange County not far from West Point. I have also been trying to arrange transportation to and from the game (I have contemplated driving a select few in MY van!) and inviting local radio stations to join the Rainbow Foundation team. The tasks are endless, but I have been enjoying every single minute :)

If any of you are interested in this event please e-mail me at MyJays@aol.com. Tickets are $6.00 in advance for the softball game and we are also having a VIP hour after the game for $35.00 limited to the first 100 sold. I hope so much that you LOOPers out there will be able to join us.

Anyway, now you could understand why it took so long to write, besides the fact that I have three children, two of which are 2 year old "terrible two" twins. I sincerely hope you will be able to join us. I have a feeling that this will be the Rainbow Foundation's biggest event yet!!!!

Thorsten with Judy Teichert

I recently had the great pleasure of meeting Thorsten Kaye (Patrick) from One Life to Live. I actually had the pleasure twice within a month to talk with Thorsten. I first met him at a charity softball game for the Rainbow Foundation. Even though he could only stay for a short time due to other commitments, he came to show his support for a worthy cause. On his way to run and catch his ride to the airport, he was kind enough to stop and pose for this photo with me and to chat for a few moments. He was so gracious even though he was pressed for time. The next opportunity I had to see Thorsten was during a visit to the set of One Life to Live. My husband Chuck had bid on a tour of the set for me at the softball game. We had a great time on the set watching the actors do camera blocking. I was hoping to get the chance to see Thorsten and I wasn't disappointed. Imagine my surprise when Thorsten walked onto the set and when he saw me, he waved and said hello. A few minutes later he came over to talk with me and to say hello to Chuck and my other guests. We talked about the softball game for a few moments, and he said he still hasn't gotten the hang of playing softball, but since it was hard to talk because the actors were running lines on the set and there had to be quiet on the set, he just stayed for a few minutes. I then had the great pleasure of watching Thorsten work. He was rehearsing a scene with Blair (Kassie DePaiva). After watching how much work these actors and the rest of the cast and crew must do in order to bring us one show everyday, I have a much greater admiration for all of them! They work very hard to produce the show and all that hard work pays off when we the fans get to see the finished product...our show. Thanks Thorsten and the rest of the cast and crew for making this fan's dream come true!!!
