Make A Wish Foundation

The mission of the Make a Wish Foundation is to ensure that wishes are granted to children in the United States with life-threatening medical conditions creating the probability the children will not survive beyond their 18th year.

In March, 1996, Thorsten attended a benefit luncheon sponsored by the Massachusetts Chapter of the Make a Wish Foundation. The following is exerpted from an article on the Microsoft Network, written by Taylor Hryb, the TV Forum Manager.

Make a Wish Foundation Luncheon
March 1996

When it came time to sit, how lucky was I to sit across from Thorsten Kaye (Patrick, "One Life to Live")!! He and I started the conversation on a very professional level and by the end of the afternoon we were talking about his Harley Davidson and Shakespeare! What a Renaissance man! Did you know that he has trained twelve years for his craft? And that he taught theatre in Detroit. Thorsten (pronounced Torsten) came from England to San Diego on a track scholarship and then to Detroit for grad school and started work on his PhD. It's funny, when you talk with him for a while, you forget that he is this big star with great hair -you see the man inside. Talk about intense!! One thing you notice when you chat with him for awhile is that he is very focused. In a conversation, he is totally focused on you and not all the noise and commotion around him. He told me this story of when he was performing in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof- at a very poignant part of the play, Thorsten looked down and saw an older man in the audience quietly crying during a confrontational scene in the play between a man and his son. At that point, Thorsten knew that THAT moment was why he had become an actor. I also asked him about his character, Patrick and Marty Saybrooke. His answer to whether they would end up together was "The course of true love never did run smooth" (Shakespeare). The actor is defintely not far from the character. Ok--and what really makes Thorsten happy? Warner Brothers Cartoons, he said!!
